Shailene Woodley on the chances of Mary Jane Watson return for The Amazing Spider-Man 3

January 21, 2014 by admin

If you know anything of  The Amazing Spider-Man 2, then you’ll be all too aware that Sony is throwing a tonne of new characters into the mix for the sequel to Marc Webb’s 2012 reboot, with the likes of Electro (Jamie Foxx), The Rhino (Paul Giamatti), Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan) and Norman Osborn (Chris Cooper) set to do battle with Andrew Garfield’s wall-crawler.

However, one character we won’t be seeing in the sequel is Mary Jane Watson, with Webb decided to cut the character after shooting scenes with Shailene Woodley (The Descendants) in the role. Officially, it was said that MJ was being held back for The Amazing Spider-Man 3, which is due to arrive in 2016, although Woodley seems a little uncertain about whether she’s going to be asked back for the threequel.

“I don’t know anything, but seeing how they picked up the next two Divergent films, I don’t know how I’d keep my sanity with two big action films in one year,” said Woodley during a chat with MTV, before leaving the door open for another stab at the role by stating that, “Anything can happen, so…”

Would you like to see Shailene Woodley given another shot at the role of Mary Jane, or should Sony recast the role, assuming the character is involved with The Amazing Spider-Man 3? Let us know in the comments below…

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is set for release on April 18th 2014 in the UK and May 2nd 2014 in North America with a cast that also includes Emma Stone, Sally Field, Felicity Jones, Colm Feore, B.J. Novak, Chris Zylka, Embeth Davidtz, and Campbell Scott.
