Despite being arguably the least reputable site on the internet when it comes to “scoops”, Cosmic Book News scored a tonne of headlines last year when it claimed that Bryan Cranston was set to be announced in a multi-picture deal as Lex Luthor in the upcoming Man of Steel sequel Batman vs. Superman.
We never bothered to report the rumour here, because frankly it was obvious from the get-go that it was a completely fabricated story (the source alone was enough to confirm that), but just in case there’s any doubt left in anyone’s minds, the Breaking Bad star himself has cleared things up:
“In the minds of fans, it’s true, in the minds of the hierarchy of Warner Bros., it’s not true,” Cranston told Howard Stern (via CBM). “I was not involved in any of that whatsoever.”
The role of Lex Luthor has of course since went to Jesse Eisenberg, who’ll appear alongside Henry Cavill (Clark Kent / Superman), Ben Affleck (Bruce Wayne / Batman), Gal Gadot (Diana Prince / Wonder Woman), Amy Adams (Lois Lane), Diane Lane (Martha Kent), Laurence Fishburne (Perry White), and Jeremy Irons (Alfred Pennyworth). The film is due for release on May 6th, 2016.
