Back in September it was confirmed that screenwriter Max Landis was no longer involved with Fox’s planned sequel to the 2012 found footage super-powers hit Chronicle, but it seems the studio is still keen to push on with its plans for the follow-up, with Deadline revealing that newcomer Jack Stanley has been hired to write the script for Chronicle 2.
Stanley has no produced titles to his name, and has apparently secured the gig due to his Black List spec script Sweetheart, which concerns “a female assassin whose attempt to get out of the biz is thrown awry by her high school reunion.” Stanley also has another script circulating in Hollywood in the werewolf thriller Silver.
Chronicle – which was directed by Josh Trank and starred Dane DeHaan, Alex Russell and Michael B. Jordan – was a surprise hit for Fox, banking $126 million from a budget of just $12 million. Trank is currently working on another superhero project for the studio in the 2015 reboot The Fantastic Four.
