Josh Brolin to voice Thanos in Guardians of the Galaxy and Avengers: Age of Ultron

May 30, 2014 by Gary Collinson

Well, Marvel Studios has found its Thanos, with Josh Brolin (Men in Black 3, Oldboy) signing on to lend his voice to the Mad Titan in August’s Guardians of the Galaxy as well as next year’s eagerly-anticipated sequel Avengers: Age of Ultron.

The casting news for Guardians originally broke via Latino-Review (who have been on a roll with their Marvel scoops this past week), while The Wrap added that “Thanos will first be heard in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy but the character will have a more prominent role in the studio’s Avengers sequels.”

After his cameo during the mid-credits of The Avengers, it was presumed that Thanos would square off against Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in the second Avengers movie, before Joss Whedon announced that Ultron would be the main villain. However, it now looks like we’ll be seeing more of him in Age of Ultron before what will presumably be one final showdown in The Avengers 3.

What do you make of Brolin’s casting as Thanos? And how do you think the character will figure into Age of Ultron?

Guardians of the Galaxy is set for a UK release on July 31st and opens in North America the following day, while Avengers: Age of Ultron is scheduled for April 24th 2015 in the UK and May 1st in the States.
