Despite delays, Marc Webb is still directing The Amazing Spider-Man 3

July 24, 2014 by James Garcia

Yesterday Sony announced that The Amazing Spider-Man 3 would be delayed and pushed to an unspecified date in 2018, while The Sinister Six would hit theaters on November 11, 2016. The four year gap between The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and 3 sparked a bit of concern from fans, leading to rumors that the studio was actually looking to reboot the franchise… again.

According to THR, that’s not the case. Marc Webb is expected to return and direct the next installment, and at this point the studio does not intent to completely abandon their current plans and start all over.

“Privately, Sony admits it is seeking to freshen the brand but has no major overhaul plans, with Webb expected to return to complete the trilogy (as Raimi did with the first three films).”

With Webb expected to return, we can likely assume that Andrew Garfield will be back as well (though he’ll be nearly 35 by then, a bit old to play a recent high school graduate, right?). The article also notes that Jaime Foxx will return for Sinister Six, but won’t be back for TASM 3.

Tell us, are you at all interested in The Amazing Spider-Man 3? Or did the last film leave such a bad taste in your mouth that you’d rather see the studio abandon Spidey altogether and give the rights back to Marvel (or hell, sell them to Fox!) Let us know in the comments below.
