Kyle MacLachlan to play Skye’s father in Marvel’s Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Agent Dale Cooper has joined Marvel’s Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., with TV Line revealing that Kyle MacLachlan has signed on to the cast of the ABC show for its second season. Of course he be reprising the role of Twin Peaks’ FBI Special Agent, but instead will play the mysterious father of team member Skye (Chloe Bennet) in what TV Line is describing as a recurring role.

MacLachlan – whose other TV credits include Sex and the City, Desperate Housewives, How I Met Your Mother and Believe – joins fellow new additions Lucy Lawless (Xena: Warrior Princess) as Isabel Hartly, Reed Diamond (Dollhouse) as Daniel Whitehall, Nick Blood (Trollied) as Lance Hunter and Simon Kassianides (Quantum of Solace) as Bakshi.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns to ABC for its second season on September 23rd, with Clark Gregg (Phil Coulson), Ming-Na Wen (Melinda May), Chloe Bennet (Skye), Iain De Caestecker (Leo Fitz), Elizabeth Henstridge (Jemma Simmons), Brett Dalton (Grant Ward), Cobie Smulders (Maria Hill), J. August Richards (Deathlok) and B.J. Britt (Antoine Triplett) all returning to the cast.
