DC Flashpoint character Blackout to appear on The Flash

September 7, 2014 by James Garcia

No casting information has been announced yet, but according to TV Line, another DC Comics character will make his small-screen debut on The Flash. Farooq, an electricity-wielding metahuman from DC’s “Flashpoint” storyline (that eventually led into the New 52 relaunch) known as Blackout, will show up in Central City in the upcoming series’ seventh episode.

TV Line describes the part as follows:

“Central City will get hit with a Blackwout in Episode 7, when Farooq seeks vengeance against Dr. Wells (Tom Cavanagh). Flash to the rescue? Mayyybe not, seeing as Barry will be suffering a “powers” outage just when this new baddie arrives.”

Blackout only ever appeared briefly in “Flashpoint,” where he teams up with Cyborg and The Outsider to stop a war between Aquaman and Wonder Woman, so there’s not much information available about the character. That gives the writers of The Flash plenty of room to play around with him and flesh out his origins a bit. Could Barry’s “powers outtage” be Blackout’s doing?

We’ll find out when The Flash airs on Tuesday nights this fall. The series stars Grant Gustin (Glee, 90210) as the titular scarlet speedster, and premieres on October 7th on the CW.
