Ivan Reitman and Bill Murray talk Ghostbusters 3

September 6, 2014 by Gary Collinson

It looks like Ghostbusters 3 may take a step closer to becoming a reality, with Ivan Reitman revealing to the Toronto Sun that he and Dan Aykroyd are set to meet with Sony executives this weekend with regards to the long-gestating sequel, which looks likely to see Paul Feig (Bridesmaids) directing a team of female Ghostbusters:

“I do believe there will be a Ghostbusters 3,” states Reitman, who directed the first two movies. “The studio is extremely interested and we’re having a meeting about it at my restaurant Montecito. We’ve never thought about it personally as Ghostbusters 3, just a new kind of Ghostbusters. And I think Paul’s an appropriate director for what we’re talking about.”

Meanwhile, despite the fact that Bill Murray has remained reluctant to reprise the role of Peter Venkman for a third Ghostbusters outing, the actor has spoken to Schmoes Know about the idea of an all-female team of Ghostbusters: “It sounds great to me. It sounds as good an idea as any other! There are a lot of women that could scare off any kind of vapor! No, it’s a grande idea, I don’t know who they’re talking about, but it’s a good idea, I would watch it! I mean, I love Robert Palmer’s videos, so why wouldn’t I love the female Ghostbusters?”
