The Heat writer Katie Dippold boards Ghostbusters reboot with Paul Feig

October 8, 2014 by admin

If the 30th anniversary of Ghostbusters has accomplished anything, it’s a renewed interest in the franchise.

It was reported a couple of months ago that Bridesmaid‘s director Paul Feig was the frontrunner for the director’s chair of Ghostbusters 3, which was then rumoured to be a reboot with an all-female cast. Since then, names like Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy and Emma Stone have been thrown around for casting (by original Ghostbuster Bill Murray no less) but no official details have been confirmed.

But the latest news from the reboot camp is that The Heat scribe Katie Dippold has been hired by Sony to write the Ghostbusters reboot alongside Paul Feig, according to The Hollywood Reporter. This no doubt will add more fuel to the fire that the new Ghostbusters will be an all-female cast.

Dippold has just finished writing the script for a sequel to The Heat and has also worked on Parks and Recreation and MadTV.

UPDATE: Paul Feig has now confirmed Dippold’s hiring:

It’s official. I’m making a new Ghostbusters & writing it with @katiedippold & yes, it will star hilarious women. That’s who I’m gonna call.

So after over 20 years of development, it seems as though Ghostbusters 3 now a dead and buried idea, making way for this reboot which could fall in line with Dan Aykroyd’s plans to treat the Ghostbusters Universe the same way Marvel treat their comic book characters, with a few solo movies joining together for a crossover.
