LEGO Batman movie will explore “every era of Batman filmmaking”

November 19, 2014 by Luke Owen

One of the most popular elements of this year’s widely successful The LEGO Movie was Will Arnett’s Batman. So popular was he that he’s getting his own spin-off movie in 2017. Speaking out the movie to Empire, Phil Lord and Chris (who will serve as producers on the movie) gave some insights as to what we can expect.

“Rest assured, every era of Batman filmmaking will be acknowledged,” Lord said.

“There have been so many interpretations of Batman and there is so much to play with there,” Miller added. “There are 40 versions of his origin story alone.”

Lord and Miller will return to direct The LEGO Movie 2, which they have promised will feature more female characters.

Chris McKay, who served as a writer on The LEGO Movie, will direct the LEGO Batman spin-off with Seth Grahame-Smith (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter). Before that, Warner Bros. will be releasing LEGO Ninjago in 2016.

The LEGO Movie is out now on Blu-Ray and DVD, with a voice cast that also includes Chris Pratt as Emmet, Will Ferrell as Lord Business, Elizabeth Banks as Wild Style, Nick Offerman as Metal Beard, Alison Brie as UniKitty, Charlie Day as Benny the Spaceman, Liam Neeson as Bad Cop, Morgan Freeman as Vitruvius, Channing Tatum as Superman, Jonah Hill as Green Lantern, and Cobie Smulders as Wonder Woman.
