Agent Carter Season 1 Episode 7 Review – ‘Snafu’

February 18, 2015 by Amy Richau

Amy Richau reviews the seventh episode of Agent Carter…

This week’s episode of Agent Carter, “Snafu”, was a bit of a bust for me until the last 10 minutes. While there were a lot of things going on in the episode, I felt that the show was going through the motions more than truly entertaining me. The last 10 minutes however woke me up from my Carter slumber with a crazed mob and a shocking death – if only the entire episode could have been that interesting.

In “Snafu” Agent Carter is on the wrong side of the interrogation table, trying to explain to her fellow SSR agents that she is not working with Leviathan. At first she plays it cool until Jarvis storms into the SSR (yes, that’s right, he stormed in) and lays down a fake Howard Stark confession.

Jarvis admits that he panicked not knowing how else to help Peggy get out of this mess. Both Peggy and Jarvis realize they are in an even bigger mess when they see master hypnotizer, Doctor Ivchenko, deliver a secret Morse Code message across the street.

Part of my problem with “Snafu” is the time it spent on Doctor Ivchenko who I found to be an extremely boring, run-of-the-mill villain. Yes, I get it, you twist your ring and people do anything you want them to. I don’t need to see it again and again and again. I’d much rather see Dottie do her ‘good girl gone very bad’ assassin thing.

We do get to see a bit of Dottie, the woman receiving the Morse Code message from the evil doctor, including a demonstration of the best way to get down a staircase super fast. After we get through all of the SSR agents realizing that Peggy is in fact one of the good guys/gals we also get a glimpse of what Leviathan is up to with a disturbing scene that involves a movie theater and a baby carriage.

While “Snafu” didn’t live up to my now high expectations for Agent Carter I am still excited to see how everything gets wrapped up in the finale next week. Hayley Atwell has truly shined as Peggy Carter and is deserving of her own show. However I’m not sure if the current supporting cast is strong enough to interest me in another season of Agent Carter quite yet.
