Hugh Jackman on the chances of Wolverine joining Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe

February 10, 2015 by Gary Collinson

Late last night, Spider-Man fans got the news they’ve been waiting for with the announcement Sony and Marvel Studios have reached an agreement that will see the web-slinger swinging into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Pre-Sony hack, it was a move that no one saw coming, and will of course allow Spider-Man to share the screen with The Avengers. But could it potentially open the door for future deals – and more specifically, Hugh Jackman realising his ambition to bring Wolverine into the MCU? Well, judging by Jackman’s comments to ScreenCrush when asked that very question, it doesn’t seem like the X-Men star is getting his hopes up:

“That’s really exciting news. I’ve always loved the very basic idea of the comic book world where on the Friday night you can have a couple of beers and say to a mate, ‘Oh wouldn’t it be great to see Wolverine face off against Iron Man?’ and bang Monday morning someone’s drawing it, you know. I always thought that was cool. I mean it’s a very complicated world how rights and who buys what, at what price, when and I think it’s great that they’re kind of melting it. I’m sure by the time that all of that is resolved it’ll be past my used by date, but you never know.”

Given that Fox seems to have a much better grip of its own Marvel properties than Sony had with Spider-Man, and the allegedly frosty relationship between the two studios, it’s probably pretty safe to assume that we’ll not be seeing a similar deal for X-Men or The Fantastic Four any time soon.

Would you like to see Fox and Marvel teaming up for a fully cohesive Marvel universe? Or is Spider-Man enough for the time being? Let us know your thoughts…
