More from Will Smith and Margot Robbie about DC’s Suicide Squad

February 13, 2015 by Gary Collinson

A few days ago we brought you some comments from Will Smith and Margot Robbie about their upcoming collaboration on Warner Bros.’ DC supervillain ensemble Suicide Squad, and now the duo have been talking more about the 2016 release during a promotional interview with Flicks and the City ahead of the release of their new film Focus.

“I’m really looking forward to it,” states Robbie. “We don’t know what our characters’ relationshup is going to be, it’s ever-changing. We’re not being secretive. We just actually don’t know.”

“It’s really cool, the way that David Ayer works,” adds Smith. “It’s all images, all ideas, and he holds the screenplay [close] and he just keeps sending you things about your character. He just wants you to be prepared for anything. He only sends your character’s stuff, so you don’t know what’s going on with the other characters. I think he wants it to come alive on set.”

Smith then went on to discuss the appeal of the movie: “I guess I like the concept of dubious morals. I always liked to play in that area. With Suicide Squad, we just started on that. I think I haven’t explored the psychology enough of Deadshot, somebody who could take money to kill people; how he justifies that for himself. So, I still have a little bit of work to do on that, but in my life in general and in my career, those are the type of roles that I’m pushing more towards; those kinds of questions.”

Suicide Squad is set for release on August 5th 2016 and also features Jai Courtney (Terminator: Genisys) as Captain Boomerang, Jared Leto (Dallas Buyers Club) as The Joker and Viola Davis (How to get Away with Murder) as Amanda Waller, with Jesse Eisenberg (The Double) expected to reprise his role as Lex Luthor.
