Original Power Rangers cast members give their thoughts on Adi Shankar’s fan-movie

February 27, 2015 by Luke Owen

Earlier this week, producer Adi Shankar dropped his latest fan-made movie Power/Rangers, a gritty reboot to the classic 90s kids show Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers. The movie has since been taken down by request of Saban, but it was seen by several of the original cast.

We’ve already heard from original Green Ranger Jason David Frank, who said that its R-rated mentality didn’t, “fly with him”. But what did the others make of it?

Amy Jo Johnson, who played the Pink Ranger, called it, “pretty amazing” and praised Katee Sackhoff’s performance of Kimberly, while the first Black Ranger Walter Jones said, “the Power Rangers deboot [deboot?] was exciting and well done but not acceptable for the majority of our fan base.”

Steve Cardenas, whose Rocky was portrayed by James Van Der Beek in the short said he, “kinda liked it”, but claimed that his Rocky would never turn on his fellow Rangers.

Meanwhile longtime Power Rangers star Johnny Yong Bosch, who was the second Black Ranger and featured in spin off shows Power Rangers Zero, Power Rangers Turbo, Power Rangers in Space and Power Rangers Operation Overdrive, said he “loved” it and was happy to see Adam killed off. He also asked if there was a part for him if they do a sequel to the short.

And lastly Karen Ashley, who played the second Yellow Ranger Aisha, posted to her Instagram, “I liked it. I hate Aisha was left out especially since Rocky and Adam were depicted. But I liked it a lot. I liked what they did with all the other characters especially Rocky and Zach. I enjoyed seeing something so different from what we all are expecting. Super dark and extremly gritty. Not saying that is right, thats just what I like.”

Okay @adishankarbrand & @vanderjames that was pretty amazing. Certainly not for kids! BUT satisfying. http://t.co/VbBZt4mS57 #PowerRangers
