James Gunn says Captain Marvel and Venom will not be in Guardians of the Galaxy 2

March 9, 2015 by Luke Owen

When it was announced at Comic-Con last year, James Gunn said that his “favourite Marvel character” (who was also a woman) would be making an appearance in Guardians of the Galaxy 2. Since the announcement of Captain Marvel joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe ranks, some speculated that Carol Danvers could be the mystery comic book female Gunn was alluding to.

Sadly, it does not seem to be the case.

Answering fan questions via Twitter, Gunn again stated his case that Captain Marvel would not feature in Guardians of the Galaxy 2 saying, “getting this [question] a lot this morning. As I said months ago, no, [Captain Marvel] sorry.”

“@DrunkenShots: Still wondering if Captain Marvel will appear in #GoTG2” Getting this a lot this morning. As I said months ago, no, sorry.

There was also some rumour and speculation that the symboite (and therefore Venom) would be appearing in Guardians of the Galaxy 2, especially now Marvel have a working relationship with Sony. Gunn however shot those rumours down also saying, “there are no rumours. Just guesses, which are fun. Only 6 of us know who’s in GotG2.”

“@Ali_Akhtar_: what about the symbiote rumours?” There are no rumors. Just guesses, which are fun. Only 6 of us know who’s in GotG2.
