Kevin Smith confirms Jason Lee for Mallrats 2

March 24, 2015 by Luke Owen

Well you couldn’t have a Mallrats sequel without him, could you?

Director Kevin Smith took to Twitter and Facebook today to announce that Brodie himself Jason Lee will be returning for Mallrats 2, which is set to start shooting later on this year. This is on the heels of Smith confirming Shannen Doherty yesterday and Michael Rooker, Stan Lee and Jason Mewes last week. Smith also mentioned on his Hollywood Babble On podcast that his co-host Ralph Garman would also have a role.

Here’s the tweet:

“Would YOU like a chocolate covered pretzel?” BRODIE IS BACK! JasonLee’s going to the MALL, ya’ll! 6 more to go! #MR2 pic.twitter.com/rsm6BcRp0a

Despite being the secondary character in the movie to T.S., Jason Lee’s Brodie is a firm favourite among Kevin Smith’s characters, and his performance would see him work with Smith on Chasing Amy, Dogma, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, Jersey Girl and Clerks 2. The other six Smith is looking to confirm now are Jeremy London (T.S.), Claire Forlani (Brandi), Joey Lauren Adams (Gwen), Renee Humphreys (Tricia), Ethan Suplee (Willam) and Ben Affleck (Shannon).

Mallrats was released in 1995 and was Kevin Smith’s first studio film after indie sensation Clerks. The film was a huge flop at the box office, but earned a cult status. Smith has said that he is doing the movie as a tribute the producer of the original movie, who passed away last year.
