Live action Star Wars TV series rumoured to be in development

March 25, 2015 by Luke Owen

Originally published March 25, 2015. Updated November 29, 2022.

If six new Star Wars films were not enough to fill your boots in a galaxy far, far away – we have a hot new rumour for you today!

According to Cinelinx (via /Film), Disney are developing a live action Star Wars TV show that will use the same constructed sets at Pinewood Studios in London as Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The sites also report that the show will act as a bridging gap between the three new movies, with the show shooting in the interim between the films using the soundstage.

This is of course not the first time we’ve heard of a Star Wars themed TV show. Prior to George Lucas selling the franchise to Disney, he was planning a live action show of his own, which never got out of development stage.

As always, this is just a rumour for now. But given how much Disney want to push the Star Wars brand (and their current love of expanding universes), this won’t be entirely out of the realm of possibility.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is set for release on December 18th 2015 and sees returning stars Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), Harrison Ford (Han Solo), Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia), Anthony Daniels (C-3PO), Kenny Baker (R2-D2) and Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca) joined by Adam Driver (Girls), Oscar Isaac (A Most Violent Year), Andy Serkis (Avengers: Age of Ultron), Domhnall Gleeson (Ex Machina), John Boyega (Attack the Block), Daisy Ridley (Silent Witness), Gwendoline Christie (Game of Thrones), Lupita Nyong’o (12 Years a Slave), Miltos Yerolemou (Game of Thrones), Max von Sydow (The Exorcist), Jessica Henwick (Spirit Warriors), Christina Chong (24: Live Another Day) and newcomers Crystal Clarke and Pip Andersen.
