Marvel and ABC developing new superhero TV series with Oscar-winning producer John Ridley

April 17, 2015 by Gary Collinson

It looks like the proposed Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. spinoff isn’t the only Marvel TV project in development at ABC, with Entertainment Weekly revealing that Oscar-winning producer John Ridley (12 Years a Slave, American Crime) for a mystery project, which “involves reinventing an existing Marvel superhero character or property for ABC.”

Should it and the S.H.I.E.L.D. spin-off move ahead, they will join Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Agent Carter, Daredevil, A.K.A. Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and The Defenders on the small screen side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

As for which character could be in line for the “reinvention”, we can only speculate at this point. A Deathlok show would presumably take the form of the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. spinoff, while The Punisher would surley be better suited to Netflix. Marvel and ABC have previously been in development on an Incredible Hulk show with Guillermo del Toro, although The Avengers appeared to scupper those plans), as well as a series based around Cloak & Dagger, which could certainly be a possibility…

What do you make of this news, and which character would you like to see headlining the series?
