The Punisher rumoured for Phase Two of Marvel’s Netflix schedule

April 29, 2015 by Gavin Logan

Have you seen Daredevil on Netflix yet? If not, why? I think we can all agree that it was awesome and the partnership between Marvel and Netflix has gotten off to an extremely fruitful start. Still to come of course over the next couple of years is A.K.A. Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist which we all hope will follow in the same vein as Daredevil’s more grittier vision.

Well now it seems that Marvel are already putting the pieces of the puzzle in place for the small screen version of Phase Two and The Punisher could be their first port of call. According to Vigilantist they have it on good authority that Frank Castle is in contention for his own show:

“Fresh off the success of Marvels Daredevil; Marvel and Netflix have started to design “Phase 2″ of their Netflix series. Our Source (who’s name will remain unspoken) tells us that one of their focuses will be on Frank Castle AKA The Punisher.”

This of course is just a rumour for now and there’s no other evidence to suggest that it will actually happen. Everybody and their mother seem to have an opinion on which characters Marvel should focus on in their continued relationship with Netflix. Ghost Rider has been mentioned, Moon Knight keeps getting the thumbs up on social media and Blade would certainly be a popular revamp (pardon the pun) but the one common denominator is Punisher. Even Daredevil showrunner Steven DeKnight stated a few weeks ago that he has his fingers crossed, “Nothing would delight me more than to see the Punisher get his own show and maybe we could convince Marvel to go Hard-R rating. If any character deserves an R rating, it’s the Punisher.”

The Punisher certainly feels like a natural progression in the Marvel/Netflix darker, realistic ‘Superhero’ approach but it begs the question, will Dolph Lundgren, Ray Stevenson or Thomas Jane return? Just kidding…

Who would you like to see play Frank Castle?
