Evangeline Lilly wants to see Hope Van Dyne joining The Avengers

June 30, 2015 by Gary Collinson

With Marvel’s Ant-Man now just over a couple of weeks away from release, the cast and crew of the superhero adventure are out doing the publicity rounds for the film, and SFX Magazine caught up with Evangeline Lilly to discuss her role as Hope Van Dyne, the daughter of Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne, a.k.a. the original Ant-Man and The Wasp.

Yesterday, Marvel chief Kevin Feige revealed that the studio has big plans for The Wasp, and during the discussion, Lilly spoke about her character’s future in the MCU:

“I would love to see [Hope join the Avengers]. Hope is a very, very capable, intelligent and, to a certain extent, lethal woman, even in her own right, without any superhero powers. There is that element that she is the Wasp’s daughter and a chance to create that is fun. s far as the plans for her going forward… I think everyone who signs with Marvel has to sign a multi-picture deal. I’m just crossing my fingers that that turns into something, that they ask me back and that I have to do more movies.”

Lilly also shared her excitement over taking on the “kick ass” role: “Often I think I’ve played characters who were tough but they’re very gentle and caring. It was actually fun for me to try on a character who was actually very cold and often impatient and kind of rude. She’s an original to the Marvel Universe and of course I’m thrilled to be in good company with Scarlett Johansson as one of the kick-ass females in this universe. I’m honoured to be able to play a role where women, their authenticity and their strength are being represented in the superhero universe.”

Ant-Man is set for release on July 17th, with Peyton Reed (Down with Love) directing a cast that includes Paul Rudd (I Love You, Man) as Scott Lang, Michael Douglas (Behind The Candelabra) as Dr. Hank Pym, Evangeline Lilly (The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug) as Hope Van Dyne, Corey Stoll (House of Cards) as Darren Cross / Yellowjacket, John Slattery (Iron Man 2) as Howard Stark, Hayley Atwell (Captain America: The First Avenger) as Peggy Carter, Judy Greer (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) as Maggie, Bobby Cannavale (The Long Play) as Paxton, Michael Peña (American Hustle) as Luis, Abby Ryder Fortson (Togetherness) as Cassie Lang, David Dastmalchian (The Dark Knight) as Kurt, Wood Harris (The Wire) as Gale, T.I. (American Gangster) as Dave, Jordi Molla (Riddick) as Castillo, and Gregg Turkington (The Comedy) and Martin Donovan (Inherent Vice) in as yet-unrevealed roles.
