James Cameron talks Terminator Genisys, says it’s the true third film in the franchise

June 8, 2015 by Scott J. Davis

With only a few weeks left to go until Terminator Genisys is unleashed in cinemas, Terminator creator James Cameron has been giving his two cents on the film and his thoughts on the new entry after watching it at a special screening.

In the video interview, which you can view below, Cameron spoke about the film saying that Genisys is the true “third” film in the franchise and that the film has “reinvigorated” the franchise after the relative disappointments of 2003’s Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines and 2009’s Terminator Salvation, the latter of which was set to be the start of a new trilogy for the series, only to have a disappointing box office return.

While the majority of the promotional material for the film has been less that stellar up to this point, the blessing of Cameron and his apparent love for the new film will give fans hope that the July 1st release will finally deliver a film worthy of the first two masterpieces.

Terminator Genisys is set for release on July 1st in the States and July 2nd in the UK, with Arnold Schwarzenegger leading a cast that also includes Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones), Jason Clarke (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes), Jai Courtney (Suicide Squad), Matt Smith (Doctor Who), J.K. Simmons (Whiplash), Courtney B. Vance (Law & Order: Criminal Intent), Byung-hun Lee (G.I. Joe: Retaliation), Dayo Okeniyi (The Hunger Games), Michael Gladis (Mad Men), Sandrine Holt (House of Cards) and Douglas Smith (Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters).
