UPDATE: NBC developing a “modern reboot” of Xena: Warrior Princess

July 20, 2015 by Gary Collinson

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Xena: Warrior Princess could be heading back to the small screen, with NBC in the early stages of development on a “modern reboot” of the cult 90s fantasy series.

According to the site, original executive producers Robert Tapert and Sam Raimi are involved with the reboot, which is currently seeking a writer, as well as a new Xena who has “the charisma and charm of Lawless and the smarts of The Hunger Games’ Katniss” in order to create “a sophisticated and smart superhero for a new generation.”

At this point, it’s unclear whether original star Lucy Lawless will be involved, although THR’s sources claim that she’s wanted for both an on-screen role, as well as behind-the-scenes.

Xena: Warrior Princess began its life as a spinoff of Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and was a huge success, running for a total of 134 episodes across six seasons.

UPDATE: According to Lucy Lawless, talk of a reboot is just a rumour at present…

Sorry, friends! news of a #Xena reboot is just a rumor. I'd love it to happen one day but it's still in the wishful thinking stage.
