Peyton Reed reveals alternate ending for Marvel’s Ant-Man

July 21, 2015 by Gary Collinson

Warning: Spoilers for Marvel’s Ant-Man follow. You have been warned…

If you’ve seen Marvel’s latest blockbuster (or if you haven’t, but don’t mind spoilers), you’ll know that the film ends with a set-up for Scott Lang’s (Paul Rudd) next appearance in the MCU in Captain America: Civil War, with Luis (Michael Pena) informing Scott that an Avenger – Falcon (Anthony Mackie) is on the look out for him.

Well, according to Peyton Reed, that wasn’t the original ending for the film, as the director has revealed to Cinema Blend that the initial plan was to tie up a loose end in Mitchell Carson (Martin Donovan), with Scott confronting the S.H.I.E.L.D. / Hydra agent:

“At the end of the movie [Carson] gets away and has these Cross particles, and there was a sequence where Ant-Man has an encounter with him,” states Reed. “But then for a couple reasons, it felt like maybe we should leave those particles out there. In that original thing, he took Martin Donovan out and got the particles.”

So, perhaps these Cross particles will come into play in Civil War, or Ant-Man 2 if it should get the go ahead…

Ant-Man is out now, with Peyton Reed (Down with Love) directing a cast that includes Paul Rudd (I Love You, Man) as Scott Lang, Michael Douglas (Behind The Candelabra) as Dr. Hank Pym, Evangeline Lilly (The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug) as Hope Van Dyne, Corey Stoll (House of Cards) as Darren Cross / Yellowjacket, John Slattery (Iron Man 2) as Howard Stark, Hayley Atwell (Captain America: The First Avenger) as Peggy Carter, Anthony Mackie (Captain America: The Winter Soldier) as Sam Wilson / Falcon, Judy Greer (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) as Maggie, Bobby Cannavale (The Long Play) as Paxton, Michael Peña (American Hustle) as Luis, Abby Ryder Fortson (Togetherness) as Cassie Lang, David Dastmalchian (The Dark Knight) as Kurt, Wood Harris (The Wire) as Gale, T.I. (American Gangster) as Dave and Martin Donovan (Inherent Vice) as Mitchell Carson.
