Terminator: Genisys passes $300 million at the box office

July 27, 2015 by admin

It has been destroyed by critics (read our reviews here and here)and was called the Worst Blockbuster of All-Time by our own Anghus Houvouras – but Terminator: Genisys passed a milestone this weekend.

Terminator: Genisys added another $2.5 million to its domestic total and has now made $305 million worldwide, the majority of which has come from overseas. In the US, the movie has made just $85 million, but its worldwide take of $219 million (taken mostly in South Korea, United Kingdom and Russia) has helped push the movie past the $300 million marker.

However, the movie cost a whopping $155 million – and that doesn’t include marketing costs – so there is still some way for it to go before it becomes “profitable”. Terminator: Genisys is currently the 14th biggest movie of the year, and is being outperformed by The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water, Taken 3 and Mad Max: Fury Road.

In the new installment of The Terminator series, John Connor, leader of the human resistance against Skynet, sends Kyle Reese back to 1984 to protect his mother, Sarah Conner, from a Terminator assassin, an unexpected turn of events creates an altered timeline. Instead of a scared waitress, Sarah is a skilled fighter and has a Terminator guardian by her side. Faced with unlikely allies and dangerous new enemies, Reese sets out on an unexpected new mission to reset the future.

Terminator Genisys sees Arnold Schwarzenegger leading a cast that also includes Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones), Jason Clarke (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes), Jai Courtney (Suicide Squad), Matt Smith (Doctor Who), J.K. Simmons (Whiplash), Courtney B. Vance (Law & Order: Criminal Intent), Byung-hun Lee (G.I. Joe: Retaliation), Dayo Okeniyi (The Hunger Games), Michael Gladis (Mad Men), Sandrine Holt (House of Cards) and Douglas Smith (Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters).
