Zack Snyder teases Wonder Woman’s role in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, hints at Brainiac as a future villain

July 5, 2015 by Gavin Logan

Just a few days ago thanks to Entertainment Weekly we got a bunch of new images from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (see here and here) and as part of their ongoing exclusive the magazine has been speaking to director Zack Snyder.

In the extensive interview amongst other things Snyder teased that Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman wouldn’t just be a cameo and that her role would be more important than everybody thinks:

“She plays a super-important part. In a lot of ways, she’s the gateway drug to
the rest of the
Justice League.”

Considering we already know that Dawn of Justice is the lead-in to the long awaited Justice League movie – and other solo DC superhero flicks – then this little piece of information shouldn’t really come as much of a surprise. Still it’s nice to hear it from Snyder anyway. The “gateway drug” comment seems to suggest what a lot of rumours have suggested that Wonder Woman is what brings the two heroes – and eventually the JLA – together.

Snyder also spoke about the backlash to Man of Steel and during the interview segment basically confirmed a future villain for the Justice League:

“I was surprised because that’s the thesis of Superman for me, that you can’t just have superheroes knock around and have there be no consequences…There are other superhero movies where they joke about how basically no one’s getting hurt. That’s not us. What is that message? That’s it’s okay that there’s this massive destruction with zero consequence for anyone?” Snyder continued,“I remember talking about ‘What’s the next villain? ‘We can’t do another alien invasion.’ Metallo, I think, was going to be the main bad guy of this movie…Brainiac was definitely down the road.”

With SDCC just around the corner and the Warner Bros panel to heavily feature the DC Universe it’s likely we’ll get more images and probably even more footage from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. It’s also possible that we will get more information about the upcoming slate of other DC movies to come.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is set for release on March 25th 2016 and sees Zack Snyder directing a cast that includes returning Man of Steel stars Henry Cavill (Superman), Amy Adams (Lois Lane), Diane Lane (Martha Kent), Laurence Fishburne (Perry White), Harry Lennix (General Swanwick) and Christina Wren (Carrie Farris) alongside Ben Affleck (Argo) as Batman, Gal Gadot (Fast & Furious 6) as Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa (Game of Thrones) as Aquaman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Jesse Eisenberg (Now You See Me) as Lex Luthor, Jeremy Irons (The Borgias) as Alfred Pennyworth and Jena Malone (Sucker Punch), Holly Hunter (The Piano), Callan Mulvey (300: Rise of an Empire), Tao Okamoto (The Wolverine) and Scoot McNairy (Argo) in as-yet-unrevealed roles.
