Nathan Fillion expresses interest in playing DC’s Booster Gold

August 24, 2015 by Justin Cook

Nathan Fillion may be best known for his roles on such TV shows as Firefly and Castle, but the actor has also been involved with numerous superhero-related projects over the past few years. Fillion, who is a sci-fi icon, has had comic book roles ranging from a prison inmate in James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy to Green Lantern in animated Justice League movies. That’s why, during the Q&A portion of his Firefly panel at the 2015 Wizard World Comic Con Chicago, he was asked who he would play if he could choose from any DC or Marvel character.

In reply to the question, Fillion said, “I think I could take a pretty good crack at Booster Gold. That’s kind of my niche: show-offy, vain… I think I could handle that. Not too bright.”

Gold, who is a member of the Justice League, has a large list of powers, which include enhanced strength, flying and creating force fields.

“I think Ambush Bug – you like that?,” said Fillion on his second choice for a character he’d like to play. “A little bit off his rocker, you’d never see my face. But I think Greatest American Hero is due for a reboot.”

Ambush Bug is a DC character with major mental problems, who possesses the ability to teleport. In some ways, he’s similar to Marvel’s Deadpool, as both characters are known for their humor and fourth wall breaks.

Whether DC will ever give either of these characters a film or TV show of their own remains to be seen, but if they approach Fillion it seems like he’d definitely be on board.
