Shortlist for the female lead in Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One revealed

September 2, 2015 by Gary Collinson

It looks like Steven Spielberg is close to finding his Art3mis for the 2017 adaptation of Ernie Clyne’s Ready Player One, with The Wrap revealing that a shortlist of three actresses are set to test for the female lead.

According to the site, Olivia Cooke (Me and Earl and the Dying Girl), Elle Fanning (Maleficent) and Lola Kirke (Mistress America) are all in contention for the part, with two other mystery actresses also said to be on the initial list.

This is the second shortlist that Cooke has popped up on today, following the news that she is up for a female lead in Star Wars: Episode VIII alongside Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black) and Gina Rodriguez (Jane the Virgin).

Spielberg is set to shoot Ready Player One after he finishes up with Bridge of Spies and The BFG, with the film slated for release on December 15th 2017.
