The Room director Tommy Wiseau wants to direct Fantastic Four 2

September 6, 2015 by Justin Cook

Between the terrible reviews [read ours here and here], underwhelming box office performance and director Josh Trank’s controversial tweet, it’s more than safe to say that Fantastic Four is the biggest flop of 2015 so far. Despite all this, however, Fox still hasn’t cancelled their plans for a sequel to the superhero film, meaning that the studio may be looking to salvage the franchise. Up until today, the big question remained: Who in Hollywood would want anything to do with Fantastic Four 2? An answer of sorts came from a recent Milwaukee Magazine interview, in which The Room director Tommy Wiseau expressed interest in helming the upcoming sequel.

In the interview, the infamous director said, “You know, I told you I saw this Fantastic Four….it just….I’m not being critical – let me put it this way, I like it, I did enjoy it number one. Number two, it’s too bad they didn’t call me, that’s all I want to say and I rest my case. (laughs) That’s all I can tell you. (laughs) Good response in Europe though, that’s my understanding, but it’s too bad they didn’t call me, that’s my point. Maybe if there’s a sequel, you know. You know, maybe your article gets me that job, who knows what will happen.”

While it’s a near impossibility that Fox would even consider hiring Wiseau to direct Fantastic Four 2, it would undoubtedly help generate hype for the film. The Room has become a cult classic because of how awful it is, and a surprising amount of people are now familiar with Wiseau’s name.

Fantastic Four starred Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Michael B. Jordan, Jamie Bell, Toby Kebbell, Reg E. Cathey and Tim Blake Nelson. If it does happen, the sequel to the film could be hitting theaters as soon as June 9, 2017.
