Ant-Man director Peyton Reed in negotiations to return for Ant-Man and the Wasp

October 22, 2015 by Justin Cook

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ant-Man director Peyton Reed is in negotiations to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe to helm 2018’s Ant-Man and the Wasp.

Earlier this month, Ant-Man and the Wasp was announced to be the title of the follow-up to this year’s Ant-Man; interestingly enough, it will be the first MCU film to feature the name of a female superhero in the title.

When Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead) dropped out of Ant-Man after working on it for years, Marvel hired Reed to come on board and fill his shoes. Some were skeptical of Reed’s ability to make an effective superhero movie, but at the end of the day, Ant-Man earned positive reviews from critics and audiences and proved to be another hit for Marvel. Although we’ll never see Wright’s version of the film, it’s safe to say that Reed did a fine job in bringing Ant-Man, an oftentimes overlooked superhero, out of obscurity and into the mainstream.

Furthermore, Ant-Man has brought in over $450 million worldwide at the box office, more than most ever thought it would make, and may even end up grossing north of $500 million worldwide by the end of its run.

For the sequel, Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly are both attached to reprise their roles as Scott Lang/Ant-Man and Hope van Dyne/The Wasp, respectively. The film is slated for release on July 6, 2018.
