Terminator franchise reportedly on hold indefinitely

October 1, 2015 by Gary Collinson

Despite a wave of negative reviews and a soft box office run Stateside, fans of Terminator Genisys were given a glimmer of hope that the two proposed sequels could become a reality thanks to a strong run in China, which has helped to propel the reboot towards $450 million worldwide.

However, according to The Hollywood Reporter, producer and financier David Ellison will not turn a profit on the Alan Taylor-directed reboot, and as such the two planned sequels and a TV series are now “on hold indefinitely.”

As it happens, the rights to Terminator will revert to James Cameron in 2019, so of course it is possible that we will see another movie at some point in the future. However, by that time Arnold Schwarzenegger will be 72 years old, so unless Ellison has a change of heart, we’ve now surely seen the last of Arnie’s T-800.

Are you disappointed that we might not see a follow-up to Terminator Genisys, or is the franchise already well past its sell by date? Let us know in the comments below…
