Sam Riley in talks to play The Laughing Man in Ghost in the Shell

With casting on DreamWorks’ long-gestating Ghost in the Shell movie well underway, Deadline is reporting that British actor Sam Riley (Control) is in early talks to play the villainous Laughing Man in the anime adaptation.

Ghost in the Shell is being directed by Rupert Sanders (Snow White and the Huntsman), with Scarlett Johansson (Avengers: Age of Ultron) set to play the lead role of a female special ops cyborg who leads a fictional counter-cyberterrorist organization called Public Security Section 9 for Hanka Robotics. Johansson’s Lucy co-star Pilou Asbæk will play her second-in-command Batou.

Ghost in the Shell is set for release on March 31st 2017.
