Jessie Robertson reviews the sixth episode of Arrow season four…

The Hawk-people Traineth….. I said it last night and I’ll say it again; these two are my least favorite part about this whole crossover. Kendra remarks to Carter “why should these people be willing to die for us when we just met them?” His response is because they are true heroes- but , besides their gameplan so far, how does he know that? I understand they tried to make him a bit of a square jawed jerk for Cisco’s sake but there really wasn’t anything too endearing about either our of new Wing friends. And that training session…..clichéd in all the wrong places and really, really uncreative. Next.
– That being said, I asked for flashbacks through Savage’s storied past, we get Ancient Egypt. I dig. I wish Carter’s dialogue would have fit in with the times but still, I enjoyed this different view as a flashback. Barry sees a “ghost” again and knows something bad is going to happen, or could happen, or if he doesn’t talk about it, well, nevermind, don’t want a headache like Cisco. What he comes to find out is the gameplan to take down Savage; a little shoddy and resulted in everyone they know dying. The pieces of the plot were a bit trickier tonight to fit and one could argue, starting up Oliver’s unknown progeny in the middle of all this was a bit of a cram job. But, somehow, with the heroes all getting another fun scene interacting together, it sort of worked. Got so much good Barry tonight, with the wisecrack on Savage’s speech to his naievity and caring towards Oliver when he saw he and Felicity arguing. I think tonight’s episode was sort of supposed to be a showpiece for Oliver, but Barry had some fine moments too.
– Speaking of Oliver, he’s a father, officially. Well, we knew that but let’s see how that plays out. Funny as the viewers at home are screaming at the TV for him to tell Felicity, but he stays true to himself, by forging truths and bonds with different people for different reasons and keeps his word not to tell her. The other future that didn’t happen when he and Felicity argue was a very interesting moment as she was screaming at him for Oliver to trust her; which he does in every single way, but not the one way where he really doesn’t trust anyone; that’s into his soul, his inner most thoughts, feelings and in this case, vulnerabilities. It was a really great scene and just like when Barry and Iris kiss in sEason One, it’s swept under the carpet as time replaces it. Crazy stuff.
9/10- Great conclusion and I’d really love to see this as 1 full 2 hour or so episode; would like to see how cohesive it feels or doesn’t feel.
Other Stuff:
– “a bunch of heroes going to a farmhouse, feel like I saw this in a movie once” Thea’s not so out of it she didn’t catch Age of Ultron over the summer
– I liked the line Savage dropped about Robin of Locksley teaching him not to feel pain; and that they didn’t give him too many one-liners to spout.
– Nth Metal- Hawkman staple. I could of sworn Cisco was going to give Kendra a belt buckle
– Oliver’s not really a hugger…but Barry’s comment brings up a funny point that he could hug anyone in the world he wanted to and they wouldn’t even know. I’d hug Wayne Brady and Bono.
– Merlyn…you evil bastard. So you’re responsible for a third CW show I have to review!
