Star Wars: The Force Awakens hits $100 million in domestic advance ticket sales

Having already shattered the previous record of $25 million held by The Dark Knight Rises last month, The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Disney and Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens has now topped $100 million in domestic advance ticket sales, of which $50 – $60 million are for its opening weekend.

Tracking for Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ global opening weekend has reached as high as $600 million, which would place it above Jurassic World ($525.5 million) for the biggest of all time. It also looks likely to challenge Jurassic World domestically for the record opening weekend, with a target of $208.8 million. The current record holder for the biggest domestic opening weekend of December is The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey with $84.6 million.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is set for release on December 17th in the UK and December 18th in the States and sees J.J. Abrams directing returning stars Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), Harrison Ford (Han Solo), Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia), Anthony Daniels (C-3PO), Kenny Baker (R2-D2), Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca) and Tim Rose (Admiral Ackbar), in addition to Adam Driver (Girls), Oscar Isaac (A Most Violent Year), Andy Serkis (Avengers: Age of Ultron), Domhnall Gleeson (Ex Machina), John Boyega (Attack the Block), Daisy Ridley (Silent Witness), Gwendoline Christie (Game of Thrones), Lupita Nyong’o (12 Years a Slave), Ken Leung (Lost), Miltos Yerolemou (Game of Thrones), Max von Sydow (The Exorcist), Jessica Henwick (Spirit Warriors), Christina Chong (24: Live Another Day), Simon Pegg (Star Trek) and newcomers Crystal Clarke and Pip Andersen.
