UPDATE: TNT pulls the plug on live-action Teen Titans TV series

January 7, 2016 by Gary Collinson

Given that there’s been no movement on the project for over a year, this probably won’t come as too much of a surprise, but TNT has decided against moving ahead with its live-action Teen Titans series, with network president Kevin Reilly stating that: “We decided it wasn’t where we wanted to go.”

Titans – or Blackbirds, as it had also been referred to – had been written by Akiva Goldsman (Batman Forever, Batman & Robin) and Marc Haimes (The Last Word), and would have seen Dick Grayson emerging from the shadow of Batman as Nightwing, leader of the young group of superheroes.

UPDATE: Speaking to THR, Kevin Reilly has elaborated on the reason why the network opted against moving ahead with Titans:

“Akiva Goldsman is a talented guy, but the script just wasn’t there. There is an unbelievable glut of superhero things in the market right now and if you have a really good one, clearly people are up for it. But I just don’t think that there’s a need for one that, for me, at least on paper didn’t seem to be screaming to get made.”

Are you disappointed that we won’t be getting a live-action Teen Titans series? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below…
