Agent Carter Season 2 Episodes 6 & 7 Review – “Life of the Party” & “Monsters”

February 17, 2016 by Amy Richau

Amy Richau reviews episodes 6 and 7 of Agent Carter season 2…

All of Agent Carter’s major players (minus Rose) make appearances on “Life of the Party” and “Monsters” and I’m happy to say that all of the storylines are finally coming together. It was a smart move for ABC to extend this season of Agent Carter from eight to ten episodes to have more time to develop the amazing supporting characters in the cast.

There are countless moments Agent Carter fans have been waiting for weeks (or longer) that have satisfying payoffs in episodes 6 and 7.  Peggy heard from Sousa himself about why Violet broke off their engagement, and there is some very electric hand holding between the two SSR agents. Not to be outdone, Wilkes decides to use his first moment back from his ghost-like state to lay a serious kiss on Peggy’s lips. Clearly Carter is going to have to choose between the two suitors – or perhaps decide she’s better off solo.

The most interesting relationship in season 2 however is a tie between Jarvis and Mrs. Jarvis and Peggy and Dottie. It was great to see Ana Jarvis back in the Agent Carter mix. In these two episodes Ana was unable to ignore the danger her husband was putting himself in every time he walked out the door with Peggy. To her credit, she was able to be honest about her concerns with Jarvis without any ridiculous guilt trip or ultimatums.

As engaging as Ana and Jarvis are, nothing really can beat the dynamic between Peggy and Dottie. Peggy finds herself in the awkward position of having to break Dottie out of prison to help her get a sample of zero matter out of Whitney Frost. The look on Dottie’s face when Peggy walked through her cell door, in a disguise no less, was pure gold. Dottie loves to be challenged, and the bottom line is no one is her equal except Peggy.

Whitney Frost of course also plays a large role in both “Life of the Party” and “Monster.” Her powers are growing, and she is not shy about destroying anyone who gets in her way. Even Dottie can’t hide her fear from the powers Frost threatens her with. Just as much of a road block for Peggy and Sousa is the budding relationship between Vernon Masters and Jack Thompson. There is a lot of corruption in the SSR and Peggy will need to bypass both Maters and Thompson if she is going to stop Whitney Frost.

“Monster” ends with a bunch of loose ends that I am eager to see wrapped up. Agent Carter has three episodes left and looks like its on way its way to a very satisfying ending.
