Tom Hiddleston now bookmakers’ favourite for next James Bond

May 17, 2016 by Gary Collinson

Over the past year or so, there’s been a tonne of speculation as to the future of James Bond, with Daniel Craig suggesting on several occasions that his time as 007 could have come to an end following last year’s Spectre.

As you’d expect, numerous actors have been mentioned as a possible successor to Craig, with the likes of Idris Elba (Luther), Tom Hardy (Legend), Damian Lewis (Homeland) and Sam Riley (Maleficent) all tipped.

Now we have a new favourite for the role, with a flurry of bets on Tom Hiddleston seeing the odds on The Night Manager star taking over at 007 plummeting, so much so that Coral bookmakers has suspended the betting.

“There’s no smoke without fire, and following the big gamble on Tom Hiddleston in the last 24 hours, we’ve had no choice but to pull the plug on the market,” said Coral spokesperson Nicola McGeady. “Earlier in the year there was a gamble on Idris Elba and Damian Lewis, but nothing has come close to the recent gamble on Hiddleston.”

Hiddleston addressed the speculation on The Graham Norton Show recently, stating that: “The position isn’t vacant as far as I’m aware. No one has talked to me about it. I think the rumours have come about because in The Night Manager I play a spy and people have made the link.”

Would you like to see Tom Hiddleston as Bond? And if not, who should get the role, assuming Craig has called it a day? Let us know in the comments below…
