Mark Hamill hints at Star Wars: Episode IX return

August 30, 2016 by Justin Cook

Mark Hamill may have accidently confirmed that next year’s Star Wars: Episode VIII won’t mark his final appearance as Luke Skywalker. The actor took to Twitter to share a video of an unseen person shaving off his facial hair (as shown during his one scene in Star Wars: The Force Awakens) and accompanied the footage with a caption that read, “Haven’t seen my chin since May ’15, so #FarewellFacialFur & #ByeByeBeard (at least til #EpisodeIX) @popculturequest.” See it below…

Many fans were unsure if Hamill would reprise his role in Colin Trevorrow’s Star Wars: Episode IX, but unless he’s misleading everyone (keep in mind he has proven to be quite the jokester on social media in the past), the “at least til #EpisodeIX” is all but a confirmation that Luke Skywalker will finish out the sequel trilogy.

The size of his role in the franchise’s ninth installment could range from large to minor, considering how he was in The Force Awakens for about a minute and definitely will be in Episode VIII for much longer.

This doesn’t mean that Skywalker won’t be killed off in Episode VIII either since the Star Wars franchise obviously has a thing for force spirits.

Star Wars: Episode IX will be written by Trevorrow and Derek Connolly and is set for release on May 24th, 2019. It is still unknown which characters will appear in the ninth entry, as Disney and Lucasfilm have yet to confirm anything.
