FX’s Archer to end after its tenth season

October 2, 2016 by Gary Collinson

Back in June FX announced that it had renewed its acclaimed animated show Archer for three addition seasons of eight episodes apiece, and now the series’ creator Adam Reed has revealed that he expects it to end following its tenth season in 2019.

“The plan is to end Archer after season 10,” Reed told the Murmur Podcast (via splitsider don’t know that anybody has talked about that, but that is definitely my plan – to do 8, 9, and 10 and they’re gonna be each shorter seasons of just eight episodes – and then wind it up. … I was gonna end it after 8, but then I had sort of a brain explosion of a way that I could do three more seasons and really keep my interest up. So the three seasons that are coming up are gonna be pretty different from what has come before, and they’re gonna be different from each other.”

Since its premiere in 2009, Archer has reconfigured its self several times; beginning as a spy spoof, it then shifted to a Miami Vice-style satire before moving its characters to a private detective agency setting. As Reed states, we can probably expect to see plenty more twists and turns in the next three seasons.
