Constantine resurrected as animated series starring Matt Ryan on CW Seed

January 8, 2017 by James Garcia

NBC’s Constantine series sure has managed to find new life despite being cancelled after just one short season. Series star Matt Ryan returned as the chain-smoking supernatural detective for an episode of Arrow, and now it’s been announced that Constantine has been resurrected as an animated series on CW Seed.

The new series will consist of five or six 10-minute episodes, and will premiere sometime during the 2017-2018 TV season. There’s no word yet on where the show’s story will pick up, or if it will follow any of the events in the original NBC series However, like CW Seed’s animated Vixen series, it will exist in the larger shared “Arrowverse” that includes Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow and Supergirl.

UPDATE: Here’s the first look at the animated Constantine…

Ryan will once again reprise the title role, marking his fourth time as the character. Apart from appearing on the aforementioned television shows, he’s also voicing the character in the upcoming Warner Bros. Animation film Justice League Dark, which arrives digitally on January 24th, and on home video on February 7th.
