Films To Watch Before You Die #79 – Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (2004)

April 5, 2012 by admin

D.J. Haza presents the next entry in his series of films to watch before you die…

Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, 2004.

Directed by Adam McKay.
Starring Will Ferrell, Christina Applegate, Paul Rudd, David Koechner, Chris Parnell, Fred Willard, Steve Carell, Vince Vaughn and Luke Wilson.

Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy is the bizarre story of legendary anchorman Ron Burgundy (Ferrell) and him being knocked of his legendary perch by new anchorwoman Veronica Corningstone (Applegate). As Ferrell loses everything he knows, he has to rebuild his status and career to get back to doing what he does best – reading the news.

The film is a tongue-in-cheek look at the new Action News format that became popular in 1970’s American TV and the characters that inhabited that world. Ron and his gang of autocue-reading chums from KVWN-TV Channel 4 News think that they are the kings of San Diego and celebrities in their home city. In their man’s world of sexism in the workplace they rule supreme, until Veronica arrives and shakes things up. Threatened by a woman, the team go about trying to destroy her, but things soon backfire and it is Ron who finds himself out on his backside. As Ron has to rebuild his life and career he reaches the lowest lows before coming to the rescue of Veronica and getting back on top.

Anchorman has some of the daftest and most random characters, quips and storylines, which make it hilarious to watch. Ron talking to Veronica in the office whilst in the possession of a massive erection, Ron playing the jazz flute and a back street brawl between various news teams are just a few of the hundreds of LOL moments.

Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy is a film you must see before you die because 60% of the time it works every time.
