Phineas and Ferb creators discuss the upcoming Star Wars crossover

August 17, 2013 by admin

Last night saw The Disney Channel premiering the first crossover between the House of Mouse and its subsidiary Marvel with the animated special Phineas and Ferb: Mission Marvel, and now Phineas and Ferb creators Dan Povenmire and Jeff “Swampy” Marsh have been speaking to Entertainment Weekly about the two step-brothers’ next crossover as they venture to a galaxy far, far away next year for an hour-long Star Wars special, which was announced last month at Comic-Con.

“All of [the plot of Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope] happens exactly the way it did, but we find out that Phineas and Ferb are Luke’s neighbors on Tatooine and become embroiled in the adventure,” states Marsh. “Our story all takes place as if you had a slightly wider shot, you could see our characters. Or if you just waited around five minutes after this [Star Wars] storyline, our characters would pass through, which was really really fun to do.”

As for voice talent, Povenmire has confirmed that the likes of Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford won’t be reprising their roles: “The Star Wars actors are now all 40 years older, so they don’t sound quite the same, so we’re trying to find people who sound like they did when they were young. The guy we had come in to do Harrison Ford sounded so much like young Harrison Ford. It was like, if you didn’t look up you thought, ‘We have Harrison Ford in the booth!'”

The Phineas and Ferb Star Wars Special is set to air on The Disney Channel and Disney XD in 2014.
