Warner Bros. and Fox confirm Gotham TV series focussing on Detective Jim Gordon

September 25, 2013 by admin

Back in August it was rumoured that Warner Bros. was mulling over a potential Batman spin-off series based around the exploits of the Gotham City Police Department, and now Deadline has revealed that Fox has landed the rights to the show, which is being developed by Bruno Heller (The Mentalist).

According to the site, Gotham “explores the origin stories of Commissioner James Gordon and the villains who made Gotham City famous. In Gotham, Gordon is still a detective with the Gotham City Police Department and has yet to meet Batman, who will not be part of the series.” The show will mark the first live-action Bat-related TV offering since the short-lived Birds of Prey which ran in 2002.

Gotham could potentially be the third DC-based television show on the air, with The CW looking to spin-off The Flash from its popular Green Arrow adaptation Arrow. However, with Gotham appearing on Fox, it seems unlikely that the shows will be connected, nor is there any word whether the new series will take place within the Nolanverse, as was originally rumoured. Still, with this and Batman vs. Superman on the horizon, it looks like fans of The Dark Knight have plenty to look forward to in the coming years…
