April 10, 2014 by Gavin Logan

The sequel to Disney’s 2010 live action reboot of Lewis Carroll’s famous children’s novel Alice in Wonderland – tentatively entitled Through The Looking Glass – has quietly been trudging along into pre-production without much fanfare as yet. However, It looks like we will all be seeing a new character come May 2016 in the guise of the Mad Hatter’s father, who is to be played by stage thespian Mark Rylance.

Rylance’s previous big screen outings are few and far between but include the likes of The Other Boleyn Girl, Anonymous and Intimacy. Much of his acting career has been spent on stage including various stints at the Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre , London.

Set to return is Johnny Depp, Mia Wasikowska and Helena Bonham Carter with Sacha Baron Cohen (Borat) the only previously announced new face due to appear as an unnamed villain. The movie is to be directed by James Bobin (Muppets Most Wanted) and scribed by Linda Woolverton who wrote the original movie and also the upcoming Malificent starring Angelina Jolie.
