Gerard Butler drops out of Point Break remake

May 7, 2014 by Chris Cooper

For several reasons, most notably filming of the upcoming London Has Fallen, Gerard Butler has dropped out of Point Break, Alcon’s remake of the early 1990’s classic action movie.

Butler was set to star in the role originally played by Patrick Swayze. It has also been rumoured that there ‘creative differences’ too, so with Butler already having committed to the Olympus Has Fallen sequel maybe that was the final straw?

Producers Alcon are determined to keep to their filming schedule and will be recasting the role in time for late June.

Produced by Broderick Johnson, Andrew Kosove, John Baldecchi, Chris Taylor and Kurt Wimmer, the remake will be directed by Ericson Core. Wimmer, who wrote Equilibrum, has also penned the script.
