More from Frank Grillo about Crossbones returning to the MCU

June 19, 2014 by Gary Collinson

Earlier this week we heard from Captain America: The Winter Soldier star Frank Grillo about a potential return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe for his S.H.I.E.L.D. agent turned villain Brock Rumlow, and now the actor has been speaking more about reprising the role during an interview with ScreenCrush, stating that we might see Crossbones before 2016’s Captain America 3:

“I have to tell you…” said Grillo when asked if he’d seen designs for Crossbones’ costume. “Yeah, his face is burned. If you read the comics about Crossbones, you know, Marvel always takes their interpretation of the comics. It’s exciting… He could show up in anything. He could have his own thing. He could really have his own thing.”

If Crossbones is to show up before Captain America 3, then the possibilities include Avengers: Age of Ultron and Ant-Man, as well as the second season of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., as well as Netflix’s first Defenders miniseries Daredevil. As for Crossbones “having his own thing”, it would seem highly unlikely that the villain would get a solo movie, but there’s always the chance of him making an appearance in an upcoming Marvel One-Shot, assuming Marvel restarts their short films, having decided against it for the home entertainment release of The Winter Soldier.
