Is Scoot McNairy playing Jimmy Olsen in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice?

August 28, 2014 by James Garcia

Last week the internet exploded with rumors and unfounded speculation that Argo and Halt and Catch Fire actor Scoot McNairy is playing The Flash in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The rumors sprung from photos showing McNairy on set with green-screen socks which led to fan speculation that his legs would be altered in post-production to account for super speed.

That rumor is, honestly, a bit ridiculous and likely isn’t true. Now a new rumor has surfaced… that’s so crazy it just might work.

The fansite The Devils Eyes has posted an exclusive report, claiming that McNairy is playing none other than Superman’s longtime pal Jimmy Olsen. They’ve talked with an extra who worked on the film extensively, who said the following:

“Scoot is playing Jimmy Olsen, but with a bit of a twist. Jimmy was injured during the battle of Zod vs Superman. His legs were pinned under falling building rubble and that caused him to lose the legs. He now walks with the use of two prosthetic legs. He doesn’t blame Superman for it [his loss of legs]. He feels grateful that Superman saved the world.”

McNairy was rumored for the part of Olsen once he was cast, but over time those rumors kind of fell by the wayside. The twist of him losing his legs sounds a bit extreme, but when you think about it it could actually work. We’ve been hearing for a while now that the destruction caused by Superman’s battle with Zod would come back to haunt him, but having a character directly affected and still enamored by the Man of Steel would add an interesting dynamic to that controversy.

What do you think of this report? Do you think McNairy is playing a legless Jimmy Olsen? Sound off in the comments below!

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters on March 25, 2016 with Zack Snyder directing a cast that includes returning Man of Steel stars Henry Cavill (Superman), Amy Adams (Lois Lane), Diane Lane (Martha Kent) and Laurence Fishburne (Perry White) alongside Ben Affleck (Argo) as Batman, Gal Gadot (Fast & Furious 6) as Wonder Woman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Jesse Eisenberg (Now You See Me) as Lex Luthor, Jeremy Irons (The Borgias) as Alfred Pennyworth and Holly Hunter (The Piano), Callan Mulvey (300: Rise of an Empire), Tao Okamoto (The Wolverine) and Scoot McNairy (Argo) in as-yet-unrevealed roles.
