Flickering Myth Reaction – The Batmobile in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

September 12, 2014 by admin

The Flickering Myth writing team discuss the new Batmobile…

After a few photos of the Batmobile for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice leaked online, a rather perturbed Zack Snyder took to Twitter and revealed the first official photo of the Batmobile in all of its glory. It seems to have split opinion among the Internet, but what did our writers make of it?

Be sure to also check our evolution of the Batmobile.

Tom Jolliffe: It’s design gone mad. There’s too much going on and ultimately it looks like it would be ten times worse to drive than the Nolan Batmobile. Bats would be better off in a Nissan Micra with a bit of bullet proof glass fitted.

Tom Roach: I really like the new look. I’m very happy that the new version of the Batmobile has very little resemblence to the tumbler in the Dark Knight Trilogy. It appears the new Batmobile is aiming to resemble something from the comics whilst at the same time look slick and modern. It’s not too in your face with any bat insignia whilst looking more like a sports car than a tank. I can’t wait to see it in action.

Ozzy Armstrong: It’s beginning to get worryingly close to Batman Forever levels of excess which can never be a good thing

Gary Collinson: I really like it. Although I’m not sure why it has a canon on the front, given Batman’s “no kill” policy.

Kris Wall: I like it, it looks a hell of a lot like the Arkham Knight Batmobile but I’m cool with that.

Luke Owen: I feel like the design of the Batmobile has become a game of “one-upmanship”. This looks like they looked at the cars that came before it and shouted, “LET’S GO BIGGER”. It looks cool, but does this fit into the “real world” outline set up by Man of Steel…

Vilordsutch: The leaked photos the other day I thought looked rather great, however the official photo with the cannon on the edge I thinks looks rather bizarre; I am all of a sudden none to keen. It reminded me of that Batman “No Kill” cartoon over at YouTube. I’m up for a subtle looking weapon strapped to the Batmobile, but this looks like a lazy so-and-so (in the model department) had a huge cannon leftover from a generic war movie and decided to plonk it onto Guano’s Ride!

Kris Wall: Maybe this Batman is so old and jaded that he’s given up on the whole no kill thing and just gone full on Frank Castle…

Scott Davis: I like it, but I’m not as blown away as I was when I saw The Tumbler or Burton’s Batmobile. It’s looks bad-ass and will certainly look great in the film, but I like Ozzy Armstrong get a strange déjà-vu to the Schumacher designs, which were pretty terrible. The guns/canons on the front are a nice touch, and the grey/black colours look great. Will reserve true judgment until I see it in action like everything else.

J-P Wooding: Looks like it matches “that” leaked trailer with the potential for fisticuffs with Supes. May be a bit early doors to reveal the weaponry though; perhaps during the film would’ve been better, with a more stealthy approach to start with, before unleashing the Krypton Cannon or whatever it is!

Matt Smith: As much as I like the sports car/tank balance of the design (leaning more towards sports car), have they made it grey enough?

Anghus Houvouras: Chicks dig the car. They don’t dig the over compensating Batman who needs to ride around Gotham in a tank like riot Police in Ferguson, MO. Every Director continues to make the Batmobile this armored beast that tells me nothing more than Batman is rather embarrassed about the Bat-Mite he’s packing in his drawers. Typical Zach Snyder. Using a sledgehammer when a fly swatter would do.

James Garcia: I was a huge fan of Nolan’s Tumbler, but am really digging this new design. It looks just as brutal and battle-ready as the Tumbler was, but more like the classic Batmobile we grew to expect over the years. I just can’t wait to see Superman punch its hood in while it races toward him.

Chris Cooper: I was very interested in the first image, and the dusty images doing the rounds looked rather cool. But the latest official image doesn’t excite anything like the way the first Tumbler images did. The gun looks stupid and ruins the front of it. It looks like a mix of the Burton/Arkham/Nolan cars, and not better than any of them.

Argh. I love new Batman stuff. But right now it’s ‘OK’. Reserving judgement until I see it in action.

Kris Wall: Looking at is just making me think of Arkham Knight instead now. Probably not what Snyder intended

Martin Deer: Shite! A disgrace, actually. Snyder should be ashamed of himself. Absolute hack!

So, as usual, we’re split on opinion. What did you make of the new Batmobile design?

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters on March 25, 2016. Zack Snyder directs a cast that includes returning Man of Steel stars Henry Cavill (Superman), Amy Adams (Lois Lane), Diane Lane (Martha Kent) and Laurence Fishburne (Perry White) alongside Ben Affleck (Argo) as Batman, Gal Gadot (Fast & Furious 6) as Wonder Woman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Jesse Eisenberg (Now You See Me) as Lex Luthor, Jeremy Irons (The Borgias) as Alfred Pennyworth and Holly Hunter (The Piano), Callan Mulvey (300: Rise of an Empire), Tao Okamoto (The Wolverine) and Scoot McNairy (Argo) in as-yet-unrevealed roles.
