Kaya Scodelario set for female lead in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales

January 23, 2015 by Scott J. Davis

After a number of delays for a variety of reasons, it seems that the latest installment of the long-running and hugely lucrative Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, Dead Men Tell No Tales, is set to go in front of the cameras very soon.

Directed by Oscar-nominated duo Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg (Kon-Tiki), Tales is slowly taking shape, with the returning Johnny Depp and Geoffrey Rush (as well as the rumoured return to the franchise of Orlando Bloom), as well as Javier Bardem or Christoph Waltz, both of whom have been rumoured to be playing the villain. Now word comes from Deadline that the film’s new female lead may have been found from our own shores.

The website is reporting that British actress Kaya Scodelario (The Maze Runner, Skins), is closing in on the female lead. Scodelario is currently shooting the sequel Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials but will likely start filming on Pirates once that’s done. Scodelario, along with four other actresses, were rumoured to have screen-tested for the role, but it looks like the Brit has finally won out.

Eyed for a Summer 2017 release, we will update you when we get official word on further casting and filming details.
