Mission: Impossible 5 moved up five months to avoid Star Wars: The Force Awakens

January 26, 2015 by Gary Collinson

Well, it was only a matter of time…

In what is sure to be a wise move on Paramount Pictures’ part, the studio has shifted the release of the fifth instalment of the Mission: Impossible franchise to avoid confrontation with Disney’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens, bringing the date forward almost a full five months to July 31st 2015.

Mission: Impossible 5 was originally slated to arrive on Christmas Day, one week after the release of J.J. Abrams’ surefire blockbuster. MI:5 becomes the second film to move clear of The Force Awakens after Kung Fu Panda 3, which will now land in March 2016.

Mission: Impossible 5 is directed by Christopher McQuarrie (Jack Reacher), and sees franchise veterans Tom Cruise, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg and Jeremy Renner returning alongside Rebecca Ferguson (Hercules), Alec Baldwin (30 Rock) and Sean Harris (Prometheus).
