Sony denies Spider-Man/Avengers: Infinity War deal; calls it an “old rumour”

January 15, 2015 by admin

Earlier we reported the rumour that Sony and Marvel/Disney had reached a deal which “went through” that meant the friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man would join Earth’s Mightiest Heroes for both parts of Avengers: Infinity War. However, it seems as though it was just yet another unfounded rumour.

Comic Book Resources reached out to Sony reps to confirm the news, and their response was to say that it was an “old rumour” with “no validity whatsoever”.

As we noted in our report, the news broke from Latino-Review, so we suggested you took it with a pinch of salt. The Sony Hack last month revealed that discussions had taken place for Spider-Man to appear in Captain America: Civil War, but fell through in order for Sony to push ahead with The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

What we do know for sure is that Avengers: Age of Ultron is set for release in the UK on April 24th 2015 and North America on May 1st 2015, with Joss Whedon directing a cast that includes Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Chris Evans (Captain America), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Mark Ruffalo (The Incredible Hulk), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Don Cheadle (War Machine), Cobie Smulders (Maria Hill), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), Paul Bettany (JARVIS / The Vision), Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Quicksilver), Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch), Hayley Atwell (Peggy Carter), Idris Elba (Heimdall), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), James Spader (Ultron), Thomas Kretschmann (Baron Strucker), Josh Brolin (Thanos), Claudia Kim (Dr. Cho) and Andy Serkis in an as-yet-unconfirmed role, thought to be that of Uylsses Klaw.
